Critique of Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godot and...
Critique of Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godot and Albert Camus The Stranger Modernist fiction is incredibly dense and abstract. Writers from the twentieth century also seem to carry with them the weight of the world, and thus their fiction has been filled with realistic misery and pain. Still, these writers often add to this element with existentialist thematic structures, which construct a very unique and experimental viewpoint on a modern existence. This is what is occurring in both Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godot as well as Albert Camus The Stranger. The two a very different in format, yet both play upon the modernist idea of abandonment by God and the idea that there is an underlying sense of nothingness that guides modern life. Each focuses on the notion of free will and how it determines our lives in a world devoid of God. Together, these great works of contemporary fiction are a telling testament to the changing nature of sentiments regarding both religion and the meaning of life in a tumultuous twentieth century paradigm. The two works are written in very different styles, but each has its own unique quality that adds to the overall success of the works themselves. Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godot is a play, and is thus written with stage directions and dialogue instructions, as it is meant to be both a piece of literary mastery and a wonderful stage experience. It is this traditional play structure that counterbalances the more modern thematic

Development and Evaluation of a Training-Free-Sample for Students
Question: Discuss about the Case Study of Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. Answer: Introduction: Land Transportation Authority reveals that the cab industry in Singapore has faced severe plunge in its business showing almost 10% drop in the taxi population. The reason behind fall of the business by one of the most important component of public transportation in Singapore is the advent of online application based cab services provided by Uber and Grab (Hall Krueger, 2016). The increasing appearance and growth of sharing economy has boosted the online commerce and transaction paving way for the new cab service to emerge and only to see the existing industry is to shrink. The report focuses on presenting a training need analysis and sharing its result along with proposing some business goals to the firm under consideration Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd Possible Business Goal: The major reason behind huge market share of online cab applications has been the tremendous quality of service with ease and at affordable price . It is evident that technological innovation has swayed the existing monotonous system of transportation and to deal with the competition and make its own trajectory the firm has to revise its strategy to satisfy the consumers (Auyong, 2016). The important strategies adopted by the firm can be; Revision of price charged and improvement in payment methods. Availability of more discounts, offer, allowances and coupons. Implementation of shits compared to long tedious working hour Availability of more cab services through increasing number of cars as well as drivers. Enhancing quality of service overall Forum for lodging complaints and sharing grievances Another important business strategy that can be coolaborating with the competitors. ComfortDelgro already ruled for years being the market leader having fleet of 15 thousand taxis (Phillips, 2012).. Recently it proposed to tie up with Uber in order to help itdeal with immense competition from Grab. Training Needs Analysis The training need analysis is comprised of three broader segments that together help in determining the performance of the company, the individual employees as well detecting the gaps prevalent in their skills and performance. Training need analysis has been done based on the ADDIE approach in order to assess the overall condition of the company as well as locate its strength, weakness opportunity and challenges it has to face. Analysis: This indicates entire picture of the firm focusing upon the problems in the operation. The analysis brings out the technological backwardness as major reason behind inability to cope. Design: This has led the firm to design for newer framework of its operation that focuses primarily on introducing technology in form of GPS, online maps and usage of various applications. Development: The development of the programs consists of two task. One being bringing structural changes in the operation of the firm and second being improvising the skills of drivers through various training program s(Hall Krueger, 2016). Implement: Implementation requires lots of positive business goal and availability of funding as this help sin prior investments while technology gels with the market needs and operational success. Evaluate: It helps the form know how far the program has been effective in bringing the changes it require to survive the market competition. Task Analysis: This component conducts an occupational assessment that helps the firm know about collective ability, knowledge and occupational discrepancies the firm face as a whole. The analysis run by Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd allowed it to detect the problems underlying creating gap in skills and performances of the cabdrivers compared to the Uber drivers. It also aims at introducing newer ways to solve the issue. The firm initiated a free of cost workshop session to make them aware with the usage of technology and how efficiency is synthesized in performance to bring out higher standards in output (Parker, 2014). The results of the programs help the firm track down its strengths and weakness. To enhance the quality of the service the firm came up with few administrative changes as well in terms of employee policies. Learning Needs Analysis: Learning need analysis helps the firm make a review on an individual basis how far the training and development requirements have been able to succeed the motive of the task and bringing out the deficiencies that are yet to be removed. It locates the position of the employee in terms of their skill level, knowledge, behaviors in order to meet the organizational requirements while detecting the deficiencies or existing gaps in their performance and skills (Salas, Tannenbaum, Kraiger Smith-Jentsch, 2012). From conducting the task analysis specifically in providing training to the drivers various challenges facing them have been discovered along with few positive changes. The moderate percentage of drivers has shown interest to cope with the change that is evident in their improving performance. Most importantly the drivers have become interested to learn the new system that requires them to be sound with changes and application of technology Yet few challenges are still existing as fa ced by many of the population and they are; The drivers being habituated with long working hours produce much inefficiency. The plunge in the business and recent slack has generated much more stress, anxiety affecting their productivity with lowered pace of growth in quality of service (Phillips, 2012). Identification Of Intended Learning Outcomes The learning programs helped to get an overall view of the performance drivers need to exhibit competence in market. The outcomes of the training programs explain the parity of the desired results with intents of the firm to meet the business goal. Based on three aspects viz. performance, condition and criteria the learning outcomes are assessed. The performance of the drivers was highly linked with the conditions of the environment provided to them mostly conducive to learning. As per the usage of equipments like slide presentation and one-to-one device allocated to learners the conditions were supportive to the cause of the training. Though majority of the people turned up and participated showing interest, only few could actually absorb the basic intent of the program that was to make them aware and easy with the application of technology. The assessment was based upon both verbal and practical tests to assess the mental and physical fitness of the drivers. It reveals that drivers are mentally stressed and intimidated leading towards more dropouts from jobs though they are perfectly eligible for shift duties physically. From the test results it can be concluded that the competencies can be enhanced through more participation and elucidating the technological updates and usages among them. Positive results of practical test s showing greater grades or improvement in the handling of the cabs and new editions in the operation would signal out success in the training program while consolidating the competencies of the offline drivers in comparison with the online service providers. The firm needs to come up with more schemes and incentives that would motivate the drivers to sustain jobs while learning more to contribute to the desired business goals Conclusion: Survival of taxicab transportation bases upon urgent strategy revision of Singaporean firms to meet the standards and quality of the online brands like Uber and Grab. Thus pushed ComfortDelgro to conduct a training need analysis to detect the requirement and its availability within the employees of firm. As per the results in the different analysis it is found that the offline drivers are yet to be made technically sound in order to bring out best quality service from them over time. This would require them to take some time while boosting their confidence in order to avoid drops in job. Lord Of The Rings Essays - The Lord Of The Rings, Action Heroes
Lord Of The Rings J. R. R. Tolkien - The Lord Of The Rings. (3/4) Part 1: The Fellowship of the Ring Part 2: The Two Towers Part 3: The Return of the King THE RETURN OF THE KING Book V Chapter 1 Minas Tirith Chapter 2 The Passing of the Grey Company Chapter 3 The Muster of Rohan Chapter 4 The Siege of Gondor Chapter 5 The Ride of the Rohirrim Chapter 6 The Battle of the Pelennor Fields Chapter 7 The Pyre of Denethor Chapter 8 The Houses of Healing Chapter 9 The Last Debate Chapter 10 The Black Gate Opens Book VI Chapter 1 The Tower of Cirith Ungol Chapter 2 The Land of Shadow Chapter 3 Mount Doom Chapter 4 The Field of Cormallen Chapter 5 The Steward and the King Chapter 6 Many Partings Chapter 7 Homeward Bound Chapter 8 The Scouring of the Shire Chapter 9 The Grey Havens ----------------------------------- THE RETURN OF THE KING Pippin looked out from the shelter of Gandalf's cloak. He wondered if he was awake or still sleeping, still in the swift-moving dream in which he had been wrapped so long since the great ride began. The dark world was rushing by and the wind sang loudly in his ears. He could see nothing but the wheeling stars, and away to his right vast shadows against the sky where the mountains of the South marched past. Sleepily he tried to reckon the times and stages of their journey, but his memory was drowsy and uncertain. There had been the first ride at terrible speed without a halt, and then in the dawn he had seen a pale gleam of gold, and they had come to the silent town and the great empty house on the hill. And hardly had they reached its shelter when the winged shadow had passed over once again, and men wilted with fear. But Gandalf had spoken soft words to him, and he had slept in a corner, tired but uneasy, dimly aware of comings and goings and of men talking and Gandalf giving orders. And then again riding, riding in the night. This was the second, no, the third night since he had looked in the Stone. And with that hideous memory he woke fully, and shivered, and the noise of the wind became filled with menacing voices. A light kindled in the sky, a blaze of yellow fire behind dark barriers Pippin cowered back, afraid for a moment, wondering into what dreadful country Gandalf was bearing him. He rubbed his eyes, and then he saw that it was the moon rising above the eastern shadows, now almost at the full. So the night was not yet old and for hours the dark journey would go on. He stirred and spoke. 'Where are we, Gandalf?' he asked. 'In the realm of Gondor,' the wizard answered. 'The land of An?rien is still passing by.' There was a silence again for a while. Then, 'What is that?' cried Pippin suddenly, clutching at Gandalf's cloak. 'Look! Fire, red fire! Are there dragons in this land? Look, there is another!' For answer Gandalf cried aloud to his horse. 'On, Shadowfax! We must hasten. Time is short. See! The beacons of Gondor are alight, calling for aid. War is kindled. See, there is the fire on Amon D?n, and flame on Eilenach; and there they go speeding west: Nardol, Erelas, Min-Rimmon, Calenhad, and the Halifirien on the borders of Rohan.' But Shadowfax paused in his stride, slowing to a walk, and then he lifted up his head and neighed. And out of the darkness the answering neigh of other horses came; and presently the thudding of hoofs was heard, and three riders swept up and passed like flying ghosts in the moon and vanished into the West. Then Shadowfax gathered himself together and sprang away, and the night flowed over him like a roaring wind. Pippin became drowsy again and paid little attention to Gandalf telling him of the customs of Gondor, and how the Lord of the City had beacons built on the tops of outlying hills along both borders of the great range, and maintained posts at these points where fresh horses were always in readiness to bear his errand-riders to Rohan in the North, or to Belfalas in the South. 'It is long since the beacons of the North were lit,' he said; 'and

Female Genital Mutilation Essay
Female Genital Mutilation Essay Female Genital Mutilation Essay The World Health Organization defines Female Genital Mutilation as a practice that involves the alteration of female genitalia in a manner that does not relay any medical benefits to the victim. According to Oleinick (1998), around 87% of Egyptian Islamic women support the practice. The extent of this support is attributable to various factors. These may be cultural, religious or social. The purpose of this study was to find out the current state of FGM as a cultural practice in Egypt. Secondly, the study wanted to probe useful strategies in eliminating FGM. Finally, the study was to highlight the impacts of FGM on the global healthcare system. The research uses a longitudinal approach. Various factors make the Egyptian people susceptible to the practise of FGM. Firstly are the socio-demographic characteristics. These include factors such as age, income, religion, marital status and level of income. Islam considers FGM as ââ¬Ëmakrumaââ¬â¢. This implies that it is not a mandatory, but honourable act. According to National Geographic Statistics, the countryââ¬â¢s literacy level stands at 58%. There is limited knowledge on the implications of the practice. In Egypt, communities enforce FGM through various actions. For instance, women who do not participate are often ostracised from the community. The fact that it is a societal norm also permits the practice. Eighty-two percent of Egyptian women recommend FGM for their daughters. Various factors in the Egyptian society reinforce this practice. Circumcised women consider themselves ââ¬Ëcleanââ¬â¢. Egyptians credit FGM as a tool for reducing a womanââ¬â¢s libido, alongside other psychosexual effects, in limiting adultery. These factors prompt a majority of women to seek or participate in FGM. Consequently, over 90% of Egyptian women have participated. This is indiscriminate to religious factors. For instance, 78% of Christian women have participated. This prevalence is attributable to various factors. The most important are religion and Egyptian culture. From the study, FGM is more of a cultural practice. The Quran has vague support for the practice. The existence of FGM preceded Islam. There is little correlation between the two phenomena. FGM is non-existent in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq, where religion is highly regarded (Oleinick, 1998). According to the Toubia, Izzett WHO (1998), the practice is a violation of human and gender rights. However, campaigners have made various mistakes in the effort against FGM. To correct this, various strategies need implementation during intervention. For instance, the approach taken should be multi-sectoral. Participants may be from the health or legal communities. Community groups should be able to work hand-in-hand with NGOs. The process of behaviour change is a slow one. To eradicate FGM, the efforts have to be sustainable. The enlisting of support by leaders from various fields is crucial. For instance, religious leaders such as Imams are influential in discrediting the practice. Many people immigrate to Western countries, such as the United Kingdom (UK) to avoid this ill practice. Consequently, the study discovered that immigrants who have undergone FGM experience complications. These may be haemorrhages and other effects. This becomes a problem for the healthcare systems of the resident countries. There are many barriers to the elimination of FGM. Firstly, Egypt is a vast country. The country has many sparsely populated regions, whose inhabitants participate in FGM. Accessing such areas is difficult. Secondly, the country has poor educational standards. Around 60% of participants were ignorant of FGMââ¬â¢s implications. The Egyptian social attitude has been against Western ideals since the 1940s. Therefore, ideas promoted by bodies such as the WHO are often rejected. Finally, Egyptians are afraid of cultural repercussions such as shunning and curses, by failing to participate in FGM (Olenick, 1998). According to Celenko (1996), there is evidence of a Greek papyrus that describes the practice in the Ancient Egyptian context. Egypt is a predominantly Muslim state. Therefore, religion intertwines with culture. It is important to note that Egypt has a paternal culture. Consequently, they carry out FGM as an act of submitting women to men. Secondly, FGM has a close relation to marriage. The study discovered that circumcised women have better prospects of getting married. Religious and political influences are the main barriers towards the complete elimination of FGM. Here, the international community comes to focus. Campaigners should not impose their ideologies on the Egyptians. Instead, they should take a subjective approach. Writing a Research Paper Using Color-Coded Index Cards
Writing a Research Paper Using Color-Coded Index Cards A research paper is primarily a discussion or argument based on a thesis, which includes evidence from several collected sources. While it may seem like a monumental project to write a research paper, it is really a straightforward process that you can follow, step by step. Before you get started, make sure you have plenty of note paper, several multi-colored highlighters, and a pack of multi-colored index cards. You should also read over the checklist for research ethicsà before you begin, so you dont head down the wrong path! Organizing your Research Paper Youll use the following steps to complete your assignment. 1. Select a topic2. Find sources3. Take notes on colored index cards4. Arrange your notes by topic5. Write an outline6. Write a first draft7. Revise and re-write8. Proofread Library Research Become familiar with the services and layout of the library. There will be a card catalog and computers for database searches, but you dont need to tackle those alone. There will be library personnel on hand to show you how to use these resources. Dont be afraid to ask! Select a Research Paper Topic Once you narrow your choices to a specific subject area, find three specific questions to answer about your topic. A common mistake by students is to choose a final topic that is too general. Try to be specific: What is tornado alley? Are certain states really more likely to suffer from tornadoes? Why? One of your questions will turn into a thesis statement, after you do a little preliminary research to find theories to answer to your questions. Remember, a thesis is a statement, not a question. Find Sources Use the card catalog or computer database in the library to locate books. (See Sources to Avoid.) Find several books that seem to be relevant to your topic. There will also be a periodical guide in the library. Periodicals are publications issued on a regular basis, like magazines, journals, and newspapers. Use a search engine to find a list of articles relating to your topic. Make sure to find articles in periodicals that are located in your library. (See How to Find an Article.) Sit at your work table and scan through your sources. Some titles can be misleading, so youââ¬â¢ll have some sources that donââ¬â¢t pan out. You can do a quick read over the materials to determine which ones contain useful information. Taking Notes As you scan your sources, you will begin to zero in on a thesis. Several sub-topics will also begin to emerge. Using our tornado topic as an example, a sub-topic would be the Fujita Tornado Scale. Start taking notes from your sources, using color coding for the sub-topics. For instance, all information referring to the Fujita Scale would go on orange note cards. You may find it necessary to photocopy articles or encyclopedia entries so you can take them home. If you do this, use the highlighters to mark the useful passages in the relevant colors. Every time you take a note, be sure to write down all bibliographical information to include author, book title, article title, page numbers, volume number, publisher name and dates. Write this information on each and every index card and photocopy. This is absolutely critical! Arrange Your Notes by Topics Once you have taken color-coded notes, you will be able to sort your notes more easily. Sort the cards by colors. Then, arrange by relevance. These will become your paragraphs. You may have several paragraphs for each sub-topic. Outline Your Research Paper Write an outline, according to your sorted cards. You may find that some of the cards fit better with different ââ¬Å"colorsâ⬠or sub-topics, so simply re-arrange your cards. Thatââ¬â¢s a normal part of the process. Your paper is taking shape and becoming a logical argument or position statement. Write a First Draft Develop a strong thesis statement and introductory paragraph. Follow through with your sub-topics. You may find that you donââ¬â¢t have enough material, and you may need to supplement your paper with additional research. Your paper may not flow very well on the first try. (This is why we have first drafts!) Read it over and re-arrange paragraphs, add paragraphs, and omit information that doesnââ¬â¢t seem to belong. Keep editing and re-writing until youââ¬â¢re happy. Create a bibliography from your note cards. (See citation makers.) Proofread When you think you are happy with your paper, proof read! Make sure it is free of spelling, grammatical, or typographical errors. Also, check to make sure youââ¬â¢ve included every source in your bibliography. Finally, check the original instructions from your teacher to make sure you are following all assigned preferences, like title page directions and placement of page numbers.

Duty of Care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Duty of Care - Essay Example The reporter stresses that "Marianne has bought from Ann a house which is ten years old. When the house was built by Brick Ltd., the plans were approved by Greatshire local authority on the basis of a report of independent consulting engineers. The consultants had failed to report on a problem with the foundations. Cracks have now appeared in the kitchen wall which collapses and falls on Tomââ¬â¢s car which is standing beside it. Marianne is so worried by the state of the house that she sells it at à £20,000 less than its market price. She wishes to sue Brick Ltd. I am British Law student so can you please use British English and british resources. That is a coursework from Tort law it is very, very important to use relevant cases and statues. At the moment we are using a book "Streets on Torts" 12th edition by John Murphy it is also important to use this book in the coursework. As a law student we have to argue everything all the time from both sides, it is not enough just to dis cribe sth, there has to be arguments. In order to be able to advise the parties in the above situations it is necessary to examine the potential claims against each. This will involve looking at the rules on general negligence as well as professional negligence. The starting point in proving all claims for tort is establishing whether a duty of care was owed and by whom, whether there has been a breach of that duty and whether as a result of that breach the party has suffered harm. In all three cases there needs to be a discussion as to whether the party causing the damage owed the victim a greater degree of care as they were supposedly professionals in their field of work."
